Use this free GST calculator to add GST to a price or remove GST from a GST-inclusive amount, with the CGST, SGST and IGST split shown instantly.
How this GST calculator works
To add GST to a price, multiply the price by the GST rate: GST = price × rate ÷ 100. To remove GST from a price that already includes it, divide the total by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to get the taxable value; the balance is the GST. For supplies within a state the GST is split equally between CGST and SGST (or UTGST); for interstate supplies it is charged as IGST.
GST rates to use
Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, with 40% for specified goods and services, and the 0.25%, 3% and nil rates continuing for the items they already covered. The old 12% and 28% rates apply only to supplies made before the change, so they are listed here only for old invoices. The rate for any item depends on the notification entry for that item, so confirm it for your product or service on the official GST portal before invoicing.
Worked example
Price excluding GST ₹10,000 at 18%: GST is ₹1,800 (₹900 CGST + ₹900 SGST), so the invoice total is ₹11,800. If ₹11,800 is the GST-inclusive price, the taxable value is 11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000.
Frequently asked questions
Is GST charged on the GST-inclusive price?
No. If the price already includes GST, choose “Including GST” so the calculator extracts the tax from the total.
When is IGST charged instead of CGST and SGST?
IGST applies when the place of supply is in a different state from the location of the supplier, and on imports and exports. Otherwise CGST and SGST apply.
Where can I check the rate for my item?
On the official GST portal at gst.gov.in. See also our GST late fee and interest calculator.
